RIM Operating stems from the life and work of Vernon A. Isaacs, Jr., who most people knew as Bud, a lifelong industry leader in petroleum engineering. Bud graduated from Colorado School of Mines in 1964 with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. He was then commissioned as a second lieutenant and served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, including combat operations in Vietnam with the 1st Brigade, 101st Airborne Division. Bud’s military service is marked by valor, including multiple Vietnamese combat ribbons, the Combat Infantry Badge, a Silver Star, a Bronze Star with Valor, and a Purple Heart for wounds suffered while in Vietnam.
Following military service, Bud emerged as an industry leader in petroleum engineering, holding positions with Coquina Oil Corporation, Union Oil Company, and CALCO. He joined the Petro-Lewis Corporation in 1976 and accepted a promotion to Senior Vice President of the corporation in 1981. In 1985, he founded VA Isaacs & Associates, Inc. with the aim of advising companies in the purchase and sale of oil and gas properties. In 1989, he then established RIM Operating, Inc, a private oil and gas property management firm with production across the central United States.
As RIM Operating’s oil & gas properties increased, Bud continued growing the company with strategic investments in developed and undeveloped assets. In 2001, he formed the Isaacs Family LLLP, which was formed as a co-investment vehicle to participate alongside various RIM Operating companies. Bud’s son, Chad, took over the management of the Isaacs Family LLLP in 2010. Since that time, the companies have grown investments with RIM Operating, including the launch of four mineral funds, one drilling exploration fund, and one non-operated working interest spin-off. In recognition of the value that its strategic and diversified assets offer oil and gas investors, the Isaacs Family LLLP was rebranded to Rado Capital, LLLP in 2024.
